Are there student loans available for parents to take out (in their name) for their child whom is independant?
None that are offered by the federal government. Unfortunately, the Federal PLUS Loan is only open to the parents of DEpendent undergraduates. It’s incredibly unfair, I know.
There aren’t too many loans like the one you’re seeking, but I know of at least one reputable one: Sallie Mae’s Tuition Answer Loan. This is an educational loan that would be in your name but would be borrowed on behalf of the student to cover his/her educational costs.
