How many of you would pay money for advice from a Special Ed. tutor and consultant?

I’m interested in starting my own education consulting firm which specializes in assisting families who have children with special needs. I live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia (on the eastern peninsula). I want to apply for grant money to help parents who can’t afford such a service but I need to start with people who can and are willing and seeking adivice from an experienced special educator. Is there is a good market for such a business? Also, how much do people in similar fields charge? what do I need to consider?

Hi:

Of course! To be a consultant, you must be paid. I have children that are SpEd and I learned much from other parents and I did find out mostly all their services were free. But in the mean time working with my Autistic child’s behavior management specialist I fell in love with Boardmake, Pix Writer and the rest of the Pix line. I began creating way of communication for my son like no tomorrow.

The behavior specialist loved them so much (I made tons of books also) that she hired me as a “Parent to Parent Consultant and Parent to School Consultant”. It is just great to help others who are as frightened as I was and to see relief that there is help out there.

But as a SpEd consultant, I believe that you can create a great business.

If you don’t try to create your business then you will never know if it will succeed or not. Can you live with out knowing the answer?

Best of Luck in your new venture.

I am sorry I forgot this…

My sister is head of the SpEd Dept in a prominent HS and she does tuttoring and YES, she gets paid for it.
