Student Loan Question?
I have student loans through Sallie Mae they have contacted me about making payments and I have tried on at least 4 occasions to pay some on the loan but each time I tried to make a payment there were “problems” on their end such as they typed in my account number wrong. I live in the state of MN if that’s relevant since i’m not familiar with student loan laws. What can i do?
I don’t know if it’s to the point where you need legal assistance, but I have friends who have had similar (and recurring!) problems with Sallie Mae. Just be sure to document everything – names of the people you speak with, keep all written and e-mail correspondence, and every time you attempt a payment be sure to record the date, time, error message (for online transactions), and details of the efforts you made to follow up. Even if it’s a recurring problem (and therefore a huge hassle) as long as you at least document everything they shouldn’t give you too much grief over any unfair late fees or false collections claims because you have efforts of all of your timely and reasonable attempts to pay or arrange for payment.
