Got accepted grad school for math, but no T.A offer. Whats my best option for getting one even somewhere else?
I don’t want to do loans.
Heres my situation:
I have been getting prereqs and have worked up through abstract algebra and others. Still need to take adv calc but they accepted me. I’ve had mostly A’s and a couple B’s.
I did, however, get 1430 on gre with 800 on math.
What I really want is a Teaching assistantship, that’s when i will feel i have arrived. What schools should I try and do you think I can get one for Fall 08′, Spring 09′ or have to wait to next fall.
I also have teaching experience. But I’m worried about having to work and take classes at same time, they are getting harder! Just looking for advice on anything related…even programs you think I should try.
I just got accepted to UF masters program in math.
TA positions are usually given to PhD students over MS students. If you want to be a TA apply to PhD programs.
Beyond that — if you stay in the program beyond the first year, you will likely get a TA position in your second year if you do well in the first year.
Finally — if you accept their invitation to this program, let them know that you are very interested in a TA position. Sometimes they open up before the term begins.
