Masters vs. PhD?
I graduated this year from Collge. I'm deciding which program to apply. My dream school is not the same thing. Most of the best universities do not accept master programs for university students. They accept students no doctors, but offer a master's degree in mathematics. These schools are not as good as those PhDs offer. The best schools offer terminal masters degrees in professional fields. These are usually MBA, MFA, MS in Engineering or Master of Education. A number of schools have recently added a new professional degree – a Masters in financial engineering. Some schools. like Berkeley. offer it through the company school. Others, like Princeton, it offers through the economy. Still others, such as Chicago and Stanford, he offers through real mathematics at Stanford – and the doctorate is the program you want. You should get a PhD if you really want to spend your life doing research. If you want to work in finance and an MBA from a school may open more doors for you than a master's degree in financial mathematics.
