How Much Do Teachers Get Paid For Summer School?
Funny thing is no-one will give me a straight answer.
I had a young teacher tell me this is “the last year she will be teaching summer school cause her student loans are finally paid”
I am entering university next year with the intention of pursuing a BEd / BSc combined degree and becoming a mathematics teacher in secondarty school.
Although I looked up the pay online with my city’s board, but it doesn’t disclose summer school $$. I am just asking for current/future teachers to tell me about summer school pay and your experiances with it.
I live in Alberta Canada, and the pay for an entering teacher is
$49 719 if that is of importance (maybe its a percentage??) Its a high school and summer school is one class for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, for just under 2 months.
Thanks in advance for any help.
You would need to ask your principal or the person in charge of summer school at your school, we call that person the Categorical Program Specialist. In my district, summer school is paid depending on what part of the salary scale you are. The more education and experience you have, the more you get paid. We get paid on an hourly wage during summer school, which for me was about $35-$45 an hour. That hourly wage goes up for me next year because my income will be more since I would have one more year’s experience. The best thing to do is to ask the principal. If you really don’t feel comfortable asking him or her then ask a teacher who’s already taught summer school or your union representative at your school. They would be able to give you a straight answer. Hope this helped a little bit.
