What is the procedure to have your student loans dismissed.?
I finished school in 1998 and have not been able to hold down a job since…a couple months is the most I have lasted at a job. I want to dismiss my loans because I have mental health issues, physical problems that keep me from standing, walking or sitting for long periods of time. I am 61 and even though I pay $40 a month I will never get it paid before I am too old to work.
Call the people who hold your loan and explain your situation. They should be able to point you in the right direction if you ask them for the forms to take to your doctor to have him fill out explaining your medical condition then send it back to them. I just went through this and it will require your doctor verifying that you are unable to work and do not have sufficient income to pay for the loan. Don’t let them tell you there is no such program though. It’s taken me nearly 5 years to FINALLY get in touch with the right people but every loan is different. I think I had to get in touch with a government office on student loans but I can’t remember exactly who it was.
