I keep getting unsolicited phone calls?
I keep getting phone calls on my cell phone from a number [(800) 829 7204] and when I google the number, it says it’s a debt company that is fraudulent. I do have student loan debts but they’re being paid for and I’m on a payment schedule, so that’s the only money I owe to anyone — have you ever gotten calls from a fraudulent debt collector? what can I do about it? I’ve never spoken to them because I never pick up but they leave a voicemail that says I need to call them back. whenever my student loan companies call, they do not leave a message because leaving a message is illegal, right? what can I do about this? is there anyone I can call or a place where I can confirm this person is a fraud? I live in NY. thank you for any help.
this has never happened to me, but it happened to my parents. my father had a debt collecter calling him over and over about a debt that wasnt even his, he thinks they were just trying to get his personal information [he has had identity theft before]. he called the number back and asked what they were calling for, told them he had no business with them and if they call him again he will report it to the authorities along with the phone records with all the times they had called. he told them to take his name and number off of their calling list or he would contact the authorities for fraud. they never called back.
