Student Loans, Fafsa, and more … ?
- I have no idea how to go about anything …
- What are the requirements for Fafsa ?
- What are the requirements for Student Loans ?
- Can i get a student loan to pay for a car payment or apartment payment ?
- Is it possible to apply for either, without any tax “stuff” (no job, no one claiming you on their taxes, no employment history, no spouse, i.e living at say, a friends house – free of charge)
Any Info. ? Any and all will be greatly appreciated !

FAFSA no requirements so to speak…you have to fill out the forms like if you want financial aid for school year 09-10 then you’d fill out the FAFSA as soon as you can after I believe Jan. 1st you’ll need your parents tax info. and your tax info. (federal tax returns for the year 2009) go to the fafsa website (fafsa.ed.gov) they’ll give you all the info you need to know.
When you fill out your fafsa they’ll give you an efc (estimated family contribution) its up to your school to determine exactly how much money you’ll have to come up with. They will also tell you if you qualify for a pell grant, (which is just money you don’t have to pay back). Then, you want to apply for a stafford loan. There are virtually no requirements, just that you have to be enrolled full-time and the most you can get your first year is 3,500.
But you also want to check into scholarships go to fastweb.com wiredscholar.com and brokescholar.com. They’re all pretty self-explanatory and the more money you don’t have to pay back the better. Also go to your councilor and ask about financial aid scholarship wise, they’ll have a list of local ones you can apply for and also talk to the financial aid department at the school you want to attend, they’ll be able to help you out too.
You cannot get a student loan to pay for living expenses. Student loans are strictly for tuition, books etc. You can get a loan for room and board if you are going to live on campus. It’ll be a little tricky getting a private loan just because you don’t have a job or credit, can you find someone to co-sign for you? The stafford loan-I’ve NEVER seen anyone that needed it get turned down.
When applying for loans, shop around, who has lower interest rates? Fixed interest rates? Can you defer your payments? The list goes on. Try to have someone help you, that has been through all this stuff an older family member or something…I’ve been through this a billion times, feel free to contact me with any questions.
