Do I have to include my husband’s tax information on my student loan application?

I got married in July. My husband was fired from his job before we got married (he was fired in May). He is now in jail, and will not be able to make any income this year (2009).

The FAFSA says that I have to include my spouse’s income, but if I include the $33,000 he made up until he was fired, I will not qualify for federal aid (or less aid). I only make $5000 a year, and I cannot afford to go to college any longer if I don’t get the same amount of federal aid that I have been getting.

Since he did not make any income while we have been married, and will not be able to make any income for at least the next year, do I have to claim this income on my federal aid application?

Of course you must include it! His reduced income will come in to play next year but not this year. Sorry, but that’s the way that it goes.
