Paying off U.S. student loan from abroad?

Hi, hopefully someone can advise me with my query. I graduated from university in America. I have moved to New Zealand, and my student loan repayments have started. I was wondering what my options are on how to repay my loan. I’ve queried with the banks here in New Zealand, but have found out that each time I transfer funds, they will charge about $35. If I’m making monthly payments, that $35 fee will add up big time! Can anyone suggest any other alternatives?? Thanks heaps :)

You can negotiate with them to pay every three months or every six months. While you’re at it, try to negotiate to get them to cut your loan.
You have the power in this situation, because many people in your situation simply stop paying the loans. Do a search for student loan fugitives, I’ve provided a link below. Of course I’m not advocating this course of action, but I’m trying to emphasise that you can bargain with them.
