Why are Uni students the dumbest people I’ve ever met?

Give them the means and the facilities to cure cancer and I have every faith that they will eventually succeed, but ask them to work a till in a shop or to spell ‘library’ and they’re just thick as pigsh*t. A few people I know who were straight A students would ask questions like “what do shipbuilders build?” and it really made me wonder! I now work in a university library where they sometimes employ students on a casual basis and it’s like they think the whole world revolves around them and they’re better than everyone else because they’re drinking away their student loans nearly every night. It also really hacks me off when they start going on about their rights when they have absolutely no idea what their responsibilities are. Am I the only person who thinks this? Opinions please!!
Apologies, was not referring to mature students, should’ve been more specific. Also, not really a generalisation when you’re dealing with them day in day out.

In my experience, graduates have no common sense.

Once worked at Dartford with a guy called Chris Small. One of the nicest people you could meet, very intelligent, but no life skills.

If you gave him a book to read, he would memorise it in a couple of days.

One day at work, he volunteered to make the coffees. He reappeared 10 minutes later carrying a new jar of coffee with the silver-foil seal still intact, and asked us how to get into it!!!!

The sad thing is he’s now probably running a department in a bank, being paid fortunes ‘cos everyone else knows what they’re doing, and he still won’t have a clue.
