If my tax refund is offset for a newly defaulted student loan, would my status for refund immediately show it?
My returns were accepted 1/22. I then had DD by date of 2/3 and of course delayed then delayed to still processing. Where’s my refund was updated to still processing with reference number 1301 2/3, but IRS shows no reason and feels it is processing delay. Dept ED show loan is in default but not in process of offset. There is no mention of letter or freeze or offset…but my status hasn’t been updated since the 1301 code
I have since found out the student loan was only updated 12/30/2008 and the actual offset may not go through. Something about a 65 day period. The IRS is the one who told me it seems to be a processing delay. If I do get the refund I do polan on catching payments up, but judt don’t want whole refund to go to them. too many other needed things.I have my fingers crossed. Thank you for your answers.
The delay in the processing of your refund will not show the reason why. This is an automated system and if there is a discrepancy with your return the computer spits it out and a human takes over.
What the discrepancy is will not post.
