I’m interested in learning how to make a living in Key West while…?
attending Florida Keys Community College in Stock Island. I know the cost-of-living is high down there and it’s probably at the least $1000 for an apartment. That’s okay. I want to know what I can do to make a living while going to school without racking up huge debt with student loans. I’m aiming for moving there in late 2009 or 2010 and starting school in the fall 2010. I have no other certifications at the time and when I move there I will be 21 years old. Thanks in advance!!!
I know your going to think my answer is weird but hear me out… You need to make a decent salary right? Have you thought about applying for a position with the TSA Transportation Security Agency. The Key West Airport though small has this position open sometimes. It’s part time permanent and pays pretty well. You only need a high school or GED to qualify. There is no opening right now but keep checking . Here is the website that explains the job and where you keep track of openings.http://jobsearch.usajobs.gov/getjob.asp?JobID=79571232&AVSDM=2009-02-25+09%3A41%3A01&Logo=0&lid=376&FedEmp=N&jbf574=HSBC&brd=3876&vw=d&ss=0&FedPub=Y&caller=/a9tsa.asp&SUBMIT1.x=53&SUBMIT1.y=27&SUBMIT1=Search+for+Jobs
Also, perhaps try getting a job as a TE ( transitional Employee or casual) with United States Postal Service In Key West. While the job is not permanent you can be placed in it for a 1 year time period. They then release you and you can be rehired for another year after a waiting period ( 1 week or so) It pays well and it’s flexible. The best way to secure an opening is to call that PO and talk with the Postmaster and then write him a letter.
There is also a ton of bars in Key West…. Perhaps go to bartender classes and get ready to work down there.
Good Luck
