Money matters, student, part time work. will i be better off financially?

im a full time, mature student, single mother. Im currently getting student loan, childs learning allowance and housing benefit. I cant get a student grant coz i was over paid in my 1st yr and they deduct it from the grant element. In total (excluding housing benefit) i get £4270 a year.
i want to boost this money by taking a part time job, 16hrs a week, i will then qualify for WFTC, will the amount i earn be deducted from my student loan?
and how does WFTC work? so if i work 16 hrs a week on £7 per hr will i work out better or worse off than if i worked 16hrs a week for minimum wage?

ok – Im a full time mature student single mother.

WFTC don’t take into account your loan as that is for your course.

Call our student finance office and ask them.
I work 37 hours per week term time only and get £13k per annum I get a reduced Student loan as this is my second time at uni. I get about £5k tax credits and child tax credits. They are encouraging people to work. It may benefit you to work more than 16hrs – as that changes how they work out your tax credits.

Call their number and talk to them.
