How do I safely marry a person with bad credit?
My fiance has terrible credit, with a fico around 440. She has about 20 collections on her acct. she needs to pay, and will have $40k in student loan payments starting in 6 months. I am working with her to pay off her debt, piece by piece.
What i’m worried about is our finances. We are in California, so I believe everything before we are married stays seperate, but I want to make sure I stay safe. Heaven forbid a divorce, but I have a 401k, savings, assets, and possible inheritance that I want to protect as well.
Dont get me wrong, I love her, I’m just following the common sense advice of “CYA” (cover your arse). I would do this with any mate, making sure if we are divorced that it’s a clean walk away and Im not responsible for any debt, alimony, etc.
Would a pre-nup cover all this?
