Financial aid for college (in Canada)?

A male friend of mine really, really wants to go to college. He can’t get a student loan because his step-father makes too much money. But his step-father refuses to pay for the college. How can my friend get a student loan, where it doesn’t matter what his step-father makes? Will he be able to once he’s of a certain age? Also, this is in Vancouver, but we might be moving to Nova Scotia, so would it be different? He’s also engaged and he’s going to have a kid (his fiance is due in June/July-ish), so would having dependants help?

It’s really sad, because he’s really smart and he really wants to go. I’ve seen some people go to college and waste away the time to the point where they shouldn’t have really gone in the first place. But he’s not that kind of person and it makes me really sad, so I want to help him.

I had the same problem…couldn’t get OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance) because of my parents income, but my parents couldn’t afford to pay either
I was able to get a student line of credit from the bank…needed a co-signer, but it paid my way through university.
