If you owe both back child support and have defaulted on student loans, where will your 2007 rebate check go?
My ex-husband is a deadbeat dad, owes $18,000 or so in child support, but also defaulted on his Federal student loans to the tune of $6000 or $7000 or something. The student loans are now being pursued by an outside collection agency since they’ve been in default for like 3 years and the state assures me they will take tax refunds/rebates for child support.
So, who gets the money first? Student loans or me? I’ve never received a dime in child support and an additional $600 sounds pretty good right now.
Of course, he probably won’t file taxes to begin with, but there is some chance he actually made a little money in 2007 and would qualify for a rebate.

fed govt gets theirs first….
