Culinary school?
So I am currently enrolled in a four year program to get my business degree.
I am just finishing up an internship in the business world and the thing is… I don’t want to do what my managers do for the rest of my life.
I don’t want to project manage… I don’t want to sit in front of a computer all day and I don’t want to work for the company I do now ever again
So am I wasting my time finishing up my four year business degree?
I have two full years left but so far no student loans…
See I love to cook.. but I am afraid that if I do something like working in a restaurant I would lose my love for cooking..
So what would be your opinions about this matter?
I am 20 and do think that if I throw away the past two years of my life and not get my business degree I will regret it.
But is 22 an awkward age to enter culinary school and is culinary school even worth the money I would have to put up for it.
If anybody knows a lot about this please please IM or email me!
Thanks
The Culinary Institute of America, especially a branch located in Pasadena, California offers a 2-year fully degreed program for $58,000 as well as an affiliate 6-months hands-on cooking class for $20,000 [via the Red Kitchen in South Pasadena and Hollywood, CA].
A more reasonably priced culinary course is a 2-year offering at Los Angeles Trade Tech College (”LATTC”) for $975 total.
The average annual starting salary for a chef in downtown Los Angeles is around $30,000 to $35,000 or $14.00 per hour.
Good luck!
