Is going to the perfect college worth twenty thousand dollars of student loans a year?

I have narrowed my choices down to two colleges

the first is Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (20K/yr) tough school, housing not guaranteed to freshman, but still one of the best schools in engineering

the second is Worcester Poly Institute in Worcester MA (47K/yr) i consider it a dream school because it may not be as strong in engineering, but it runs on a quarter system (7wks in, 10 days off, etc.) only three classes per quarter, and a small town environment which I am more comfortable with. Plus i got a 10K/yr scholarship from them cutting down the money

The only aspect that is holding me back is money. My parents are willing to pay 20K/yr for either school (Cal Poly paid off, WPI + Scholarship = 17-20K/yr in loans) I can see my self fitting into WPI so much better than going to Cal Poly SLO. But coming out of college with 80K in debt seems like alot.

plz help, im desparate for answers!!!

That’s a tough question. Have you checked into getting grants or other scholarships? What about a part-time job on campus to help with some of the expenses? Thought about going to a junior college for two years, then transferring for your junior and senior year at your dream school? If none of those work out or sound like what you want, then I say go for it.

Follow your dream and don’t look back.
