How can I make myself feel better about this situation?

I want to become a college professor, and to do that you need a PhD. I just graduated with my BA, which is in a field that a BA is useless in (you need a Master’s or PhD to work in this field). I currently work in retail and I plan to continue working there for the next 2 years so I can save up money and pay for the rest of my education rather than go now and get student loans and be in debt.
Everyone I know including my family keeps making me feel bad and saying stuff like I’m an idiot for working at a minimum wage job and they keep saying things like Why are you working a job that high school drop outs and 15 year old idiots have when you have a college degree. I’m getting really annoyed but unfortunately, cause they’ve been saying this for a while now over and over again, I’m kinda starting to believe it. Any suggestions or ideas on what to do to shut them up?

There are alot of people with college degrees working in retail. Go to you local B&N and at least 80% of the staff has a college degree and a good many have advanced degrees.

That aside, I would encourage you to at least consider continuing your education on a part-time basis. You have a great goal, but don’t be put off by the expense of the education. Do whatever it takes to get it. Those loans will get paid off and it’s a great investment.
