What financial aid options are available to someone seeking a second Bachelor’s Degree?

I earned a Bachelor’s of Elective Stusdies last summer, but am considering returning to college to persue a second degree. I can not seem to find any good information on financial aid except student loans. I am not making enough money at my present job to pay my bills, let alone more student loans. I have found my education thus far does not really apply to any field. I took primarily classes in Special Education and without a teaching license they are not helping me to find anything in my area.

Consider the three options:

Scholarships – Grants – Perkins

Dependant on your state there are government grant and scholarship programs that are relatively easy to find for someone who is focusing on Special Education. Let me know what state you are in and I’ll dig a few up for you.

Don’t be turned off by all student loans! Some can be paid off for you.

Assuming your income level is low as you’ve said, apply again for your FAFSA, you’ll likely get approved for a Perkins loan. Why another student loan? If you teach in an “Economically Disadvantaged Area” for a period of time these loans will be paid off for you. You can also still consolidate these loans to reduce your payments and you will not have to make payments on any loans if you are in school at least 1/2 time.

If you’re pursuing a teachers license getting a masters degree is expensive and will mean more student loans, may not the best option for you right now.

Good Luck!
