Can a GI Bill be used to pay back previous loans for college?

I was awarded the Army ROTC four year scholarship and I plan to use it for the university of tennessee in knoxville. However, it will not cover room board along with tuition which is fine but I still can’t afford it. My family makes 1 to 2k over the max for most scholarships. I figured I could just get student loans and use the gi bill to pay them back once I’m in the Army. Will this work?

Yeah, but why don’t you wait till you are in the Army, that way you can get tuition assistance to use for school rather than taking out loans and using your GI Bill. The GI Bill can be used after you get out of the army, but, the tuition assistance is only available while you are in.
