How can financial issues affect a marriage?

Like the title, how do financial issues affect a marriage?
Did you or your spouse go to college & graduate w/ student loans to pay back? Has it been hard?
I’m a 2nd year student, over 20g in debt (I didn’t ask for the loans, that’s just what I got from financial aid).
My bf is out of school already, not sure if he took out loans or not but he went to school in the UK, it might be different there. Anyways he wants to get married in a year or so, & that’s fine, but I’m thinking of all the debt I’ll be in & how will it affect buying a house & everything?
How did it affect you?

Finances can create a lot of strain on relationships. A lot of the problems occur when one person is fiscally responsible, while the other is not. Another major issue is attempting to live beyond your means. In this case, what you want to do is sit down with him and calculate the total amount of your debt. Calculate the total amount due for both of your loans every month. Get jobs that will provide you with enough pay to cover all of the bills, loans included, rent/mortgage and still have some left over. The housing market is cheap right now because of all of the foreclosures, as long as you have good credit it should be ok. Just make sure you can pay everything and have some left over to save or have fun with and that should remove any potential strain.
