Need Information about tourist/visitor visa for a friend from Jordan wishing to visit Australia…?

I would like to know the chances of my friend being granted a visitor visa to travel to Australia from Jordan. He has just under $5000 AU showing in his bank account, a letter from his university showing he will be returning to his studies after his holiday and myself and my husband have given him an invitation letter each. We have also specified that we will be providing him with accomodation and food during the 3 month stay. However, we are all a little nervous, he will be applying for the visa this thursday. He cannot do the Visa application electronically because Jordan isnt listed as an electronic application. What are his chances of getting the visa? How long will the visa result take to reach him? Has anybody else out there had similar issues? Also, does the money he has showing in the bank account need to be actually with him when he travels (if he gets the visa) because at this stage he is simply ’showing’ that amount in order to get the visa….??? HELP

Ha your in luck, Im moving to Australia so I know all about visas :P
It takes about 4-6 weeks to reach him. The only problem would be i f he has over stayed his previous visa in Australia or if he has any criminal convictions that he has ticked no to..if he has criminal convictions he MUST TICK YES! this wont stop him entering Australia but customs will want to talk to him about it to see if he is a threat to Australia, if its things done in the youth, these are normally over looked. Most thnigs are inless it is a recent unspent or spent or pending conviction for higher crimes like posession of heroine or class a drugs etc. However if he hasn’t then he should be good to go! Aslnog as he can provide the details of his flight to Australia and returning flight details to Customs, he will need to have contact details for you incase there are any problems [they normally want visitors to have atleast $10,000 when coming voer incase anything was to go wrong during the stay, to make sure they could support themselfs the rest of the duration of the trip... they dont want anybody working illegally to support themselfs witch often happens]but all in all he s hould be fine, tell him not to bring over anything wooden, any plant materials or organic substances. No meat dairy eggs or fish as these will apose a threat and customs and quarentine will be after him! Customs and immigration might have a concern if he is showing to have 5000 and no more, NEVER LIE TO CUSTOMS THEY WILL CATCH YOU OUT ON ABSOLUTLY EVERYTHING AND BELIEVE ME THEY WILL! YOU CANT HIDE ANYTHING!!!! serious. They get pist off when people lie, jsut be honest. they will check his bags and wallet too see how much cash he has on him, they will also take into account travellers cheques and credit cards, he can lie on the visa application and get away with it but when he gets to Australia he is then going to have big problems because this is a generic part of the search before he is allowed to enter.
