Is studying abroad worth it?

I always wanted to study abroad in London, and now I'm a sophomore in college, I might have a chance. My parents tell me it's a waste of money and that the subscription of a student loan to study for one semester derive no real benefit. They do not think going to "experience" worthwhile and that obtaining a job after graduation will be easier to follow. Should I forget? What are your views? Thank you in advance! I live in America, incidentally. I should mention that in the question.

You know what, logically, your parents are right. I think if you learn another language and I want total immersion, so it would be worth it. However, if you're English, you can simply visit the country and it would be cheaper. I lived in England for 4 years, but the subject was only taught me most in England or Australia, or I would never went. Except for a visit. However, if you are looking for some cultural construction, so it's great. I would then recommend to a summer program over the whole year if your parents are adamantly against. However, what you can do is see if you're school is affiliated is there any solid and you only pay for your school by going there. However, you would have a lot of extra expenses in England, many years United do not give you meals, as you see in the states. You must buy your own utensils and make your own meals or spending lots of money buying them. And Life in England is expensive. It's like a $ 1.50, $ 1.80 for 1 pound, so that the pound sterling is worth more than the States. The cost can be expensive when the visit may be more beneficial and less costly — or do a summer program. This is to help parents with costs — because really, what they pay and loans are a pain. I suffer through them. I can see where they come from. However, the experience is enjoyable and fun. I loved my years there and I intend to retreat. Regarding the employment opportunities it always open doors for you, but it depends on your area. A summer program abroad is equal to one year abroad for most people. Because you took the time to travel. Thus, a less expensive, shorter pulls the same benefits as costs always play a role in what students can do. I say look at all your options and examine the advantages and disadvantages. I liked it in England so I would say go ahead. But to appease your parents and keeping in mind the costs, see how a summer study abroad costs program and if your school has branches in lower prices. Compared to a semester abroad. Over whether they give you meals or they are not, etc.. You do not want to finish off and your parents tell you to just come home. It happened to one of my friends. —————————————— ———————————- In response to the poster above me. It will not be easy to find part-time work, as many believe. Many People are weary of taking on international students for employment. I know that places like STA Travel has similar programs, they offer opportunities employment, but England is not one of the key countries for that. You can get paid under the table in a bar, but it is long hours and if you have school and you want to do well … it can not be fun for the long term. In addition, you are only allowed to work 20 hours per week as an exchange student, again minimizing your chances of employment. I try to give you realistic break down. Some other people are not lucky enough to find a job — and I think it is unrealistic to assume that you find a job, especially taking into account economic conditions worldwide. You'll be competing with other British people and part of the EU Employment, so there are chances that you will not find one right away, if at all.
