Refused a Nationwide Debit/Credit card?

I have applied several times for a card other than the ‘cash card’ I already have with Nationwide, and each time have been refused. The only ‘black marks’ on my credit history I can think of are my student loan (which is not supposed to affect your credit rating), and an unauthorised overdraft 5 years ago, due to the theft and fraudulent use of my debit card with another bank.
Nationwide give no explanation of this refusal. I currently have my salary paid into the account, as I am living abroad and it is free to withdraw money.
Does anyone have any experience of this problem? How can I find out why I am being refused? I have tried to check my credit status online with Experian, but as I am registered living at my Mum’s house in the UK, I do not have any bills in my name to prove my address.

Go to checkmyfile.com – they’ll do a free credit check for you.
